What comes to your mind if someone asked you, "Do you 'know' him or her?" This appears to be a straight forward question, right? However, the more I have pondered this question in relation to "knowing" Christ, the more I realize that there is more complexity that meets the eye.
You may thinking to yourself, "What is this guy talking about?" and this is a valid observation. Yet, think about it. For example, I can say that I know Christ, when in reality, when I peel back the facade of my flesh, maybe my knowing Christ really only amounts to knowing of Christ. When I know of someone, I really only know them from a distance. Our relationship is at best at arms length. I have nothing invested in the relationship. I haven't given anything. I haven't sacrificed anything. I have no skin in the game. The only thing that I can truly account for is that I know of this person.
When we think of knowing Christ, do we genuinely know Him in a surrendered, faithful, and obedient way as we follow Him wherever He leads? Or, do we just know of Him as we do all the religious things we are told to do and we do all of the leading as we attempt to have Christ follow us, our plans, and our agendas?
In today's message, Paul says in Philippians 3:10, "That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death". Do we just know of Christ, or are we passionately in pursuit of truly knowing Him, regardless of the price we may pay as we willingly surrender to Him?
Be encouraged and be Enagaged in the Truth.
Psalm 115:1
Pressing on toward His calling,
Jon
